104 Heaton Road is a hive of creative commerce in Newcastle upon Tyne. Founded with private capital by young entrepreneurs, it is an effort at patronage of grassroots art and business—with a far from Gulbenkian budget—in the hope of levering a new wave of intelligent and engaged entrepreneurs and practitioners.
Situated in large shop-fronted premises on bustling Heaton Road, its facilities include office space with desks rentable cheaply and on easy terms, in and outdoor meeting areas, and a coming-along-very-nicely print workshop. Products from our tenants, affiliates and friends are available to buy in our gallery and shop along with other ephemera that catches our eye, and the space is available for functions and workshops. Doubtless others have ideas for events that we haven’t thought of or can’t yet devote the energy to. Film screenings? Photo shoots? Discussion groups? We’d love to hear your suggestions (although we draw the line at ‘free Africa’ campaign meetings and cardigan customisation clubs).
Read our blog and maybe even sign up to our RSS feed for news about goings-on in 104, our status updates, and the odd interesting or useful link. View the work spilling off our printing presses, even buy some of it in our online shop (coming soon). And get in touch—or pay us a visit—to talk to us about using the facility, or to lodge a complaint about our breezy manner or the hole in the floor.
